Having just arrived home from Amsterdam on a week of 12 workshops focused on pranayama (breath control) Mysore practice (self practice in the ashtanga yoga sequence) and 2 workshops focused on opening the hips and shoulders, I feel inspired to pass on what I have felt has rejuvenated and brought more intelligence to how I practice.
Within the practice of ashtanga vinyasa yoga, all of the aforementioned play an integral role. Breath focused awareness and alignment both compliment each other in creating a healthy body and an ability to see the conditioned patterns we hold so dear. To know what these patterns are, we must first listen closely or In my case have a teacher who can help to see them from an outside perspective.
These workshops were being taught by Rolf and Marci, who I've been to see in Goa twice: so it was heart warming to once again have the opportunity to see them in Amsterdam. Thanks to my friend and teacher Gibran Gonzalez Madrid, I had that opportunity (that is Marci, Rolf, Gibran and his girlfriend and myself above).
I met Gibran practicing with Rolf and Marci in Goa initially 6 years ago and have kept in contact ever since. This reaffirms the sangha (community) that is available within the yoga circles and something that I aim to emulate within our studio in Cookstown (shown below).
The week long intensive will give you the opportunity as a total beginner or an already experienced practitioner to bring about the same focus and possible change in your life. The sangha is already alive and well within the cookstown studio and many friends have been made and the support for each other is there, helped by the commitment from all practitioners over the last few years.
If you are curious and want to experience the special energy within a room of practitioners, focused on breath awareness within the structured alignment of the yoga postures (asanas) and want to develop a disciplined practice to help bring about change, this week may be the key.
The cost for the full week's workshop is £45, or a flexible drop in rate of £10 per day for anyone who only has time to attend one or two days.
